The robot in real time calculates what force must be applied to their limbs in order to do flips and then land back on the surface.
A four-Legged robot is very similar to the dog, and the company Boston Dynamics showed it in great detail, including the development process. Obviously, technology every year improves and robots become more graceful, more flexible, more plausible, if you so wish. The motion of the robot is so smooth and his joints have many degrees of freedom, that simply amazed. However, it is a bit scary, despite the fact that the Cheetah looks very cute.
