A review of the iBasso player DX200 — le roi est mort, vive le roi! Source:

What about for so long dreamed of audiophiles worldwide, it's finally happened. iBasso in honor of its 10-year anniversary decided to revive old and to update their top model DX100. Of course, after it was and , and , and, to be honest, but, of course, everyone was waiting for the flagman, and he appeared in all its glory.

Become in our time a classic DX100 was in many ways revolutionary player, starting with the use of Android in the role of the OS to the very fresh at the time, DAC ESS Sabre 9018. Of course, the downside is high at the time of price and very large size. After this model, iBasso decided to play in a more accessible segment and produced a series of players easier. They were very warmly received, but the title of the cult is not pulled, and decided to fix the developers.

DX200 has absorbed in itself all the years of experience of the company and is largely made «future-proofed». In the role of DACs used a couple of new chips from ESS Sabre 9028, the new 8-core processor, 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. In General, «future-proof» made good, even the new Android OS version, which still works the player will not be a problem if the developers decide to upgrade the device. For greater versatility DX200 equipped with removable amplifiers, which will also improve the capabilities of the player without reloading. The rest of the tying is also done at the highest level, starting with a high-precision master oscillators and ending with high-quality capacitors and resistors. For the full function of the USB DAC used a separate chip from XMOS, so the DAC works without affecting the OS of the player.

«Wrapped» all in aluminium casing that provides protection from electromagnetic interference, and complements all touch screen resolution of 1280 × 768 pixels.

Designed player more than a year, the first public announcements were made at the end of 2015, and on the shelves, he began receiving only last year. In terms of pricing iBasso went through an interesting, they are not reached in the segment «tops», but it took the top niche «Protopopova» echelon, evaluating a player .

Packing and delivery

This is where above the box job, so it is in the office iBasso. Of course, this is not tricuspid folding wardrobe a La the Lotto, but the DX200 is also interesting Packed. On top of the box wearing a cardboard protective «jacket» embossed, so first you need to remove it. The main cardboard packaging opens on the diagonal, opening up access to fixed inside the player, and a flat box with accessories, which also decided not to save.

In Addition to the player you will receive: high quality MicroUSB Type C cable in a fabric braid, case for player of brown leather (like PU, but I could be wrong), adapter for coaxial input and a signature boss in order to warm up. According to the engineers, the player need to warm up, this should connect it to the balanced output of the complete transaction with the load and leave it to play for 200 hours and longer is better. For me, this Board looks sooooo well, questionable, but to me the player initially fell after use, so check their approval I can't.

Nice, by the way, that case still put in a kit and not tried to capitalize on it a couple of dozen dollars. Although the style with the button on top I do not like.

the

Design

IBasso to the choice of design approached very carefully, even conducted a survey on the Internet devoted to the choice of one of three options. Expected won the most strict and simple, I would even characterize him by the epithet «boring». This is not surprising because of the other options first resembled the future, as he is painted in the late 60's, and the second looked as if it had been hewed from a suitable plank craftsman-a carpenter from the village Kukuevo trying to portray the fruit of love Astell&Kern and Onkyo.

However, it's still a superior player, not a fashion accessory, so it makes no sense to flaunt the newest design, and most importantly — to be comfortable and functional, and with this the DX200 all very good.

The body of the player — practically a flat box to the top right corner which is attached the black panel with volume knob and control buttons. The player came out quite large, it is noticeably more Fiio X7 and X5-3, but smaller than the OPUS#2. In General, in a shirt pocket it does not revile, and jeans though he is fit, but with difficulty.

Build Quality expected perfect, all accurately fitted, I have no squeaks and no backlash. The player is almost full metal except for the plastic insert on the back side that covers the antenna. The main part of the housing is made of a graphite-gray back cover — black. By the way, the material of this cover was long in doubt. After a long family Council with careful tapping it was decided to consider it metal.

IBasso decided not to leave free of any side edge of the player. On the left is a slot for memory cards, of course, sorry only one, but this is offset 64 GB of internal memory. At the top there are coaxial output, it can optionally be optical, C MicroUSB connector and the power button and lock. On the right, directly under your thumb, there are volume control and three button control playback. All of these four controls have a nice tight course, the volume control is fixing each step, but it is soft, which, combined with tight rotation gives a nice effect.

At the bottom is a removable amplifier. He already is changing the traditional scheme: Unscrew the two screws on the sides to remove the module, put the new. iBasso has already announced some alternative gain module, but it's unclear what it is, how much it will cost and what change in the sound. Generally, companies are lacking a little openness in their plans.

IBasso learned from the debut of the Fiio X7 and once equipped the player with powerful amplification module with balanced output, so on the bottom of the module AMP1 are the line-out Jack, normal headphone outputs and a 2.5 mm balanced.

In General, a powerful amplifier and cool the filling effect on the time of operation of the machine, and in my standard test (MEEAudio P1, normal output, high gain, volume 60, FLAC 44.1 kHz/16 bit), the player was given 7 hours and 20 minutes. The overall result is not a record, but for this iron is quite decent. In this case very likely will be the appearance of the amplifier with reduced power for those who want to increase the time.

Most of the front panel covers the screen. It is, of course, very high quality, with excellent viewing angles and enough brightness for a clear Sunny day. The sensor is responsive and clear, and perhaps the only niggle is not the best oleophobic coating: the screen collects fingerprints, although easily wipes off. Perhaps this can be combated by buying some quality protective glass is installed on the tread mill.

the

Administration

The Interface is built based on Android 6 as you know what other players there are two modes of operation: pure Android with a proprietary player and a mode where the player is the main interface, named this mode Mango (in fact, is called variation of Android, which built DX50-80-90). A toggle in shutdown menu.

Of Course, I immediately tried Mango and a little disappointed. The interface is very bland, black-and-white icons and the delayed response to gestures. In General, the option solely for the purists, much like what was in DX80. Everything is quite obvious from the playback screen, swipe to the right leads to the media library, swipe left to settings. Swipe down from the top opens «blind» quick settings. In General, do not see special sense to describe this mode, especially because ideologically he looks like a player built into Android, and on it I will stop a little more detail. The main (and, in my opinion, only) advantage of this Mango mode-it loads quickly, the player takes him less than 10 seconds.

Look, where is hidden the reboot in normal Android, I decided to try «full» OS. By the way, it also loaded very quickly, about 20 seconds, had a strong iron. After reboot it turned out that 8 cores and 2 GB of RAM, which is called «drag», the interface is responsive, fast and quite modern. However, iBasso did not support Google Play, which slightly cools the ardor, but it does not matter, first, already have third-party firmware with it...
