Ruselectronics, has developed optical discs based on organic materials Source:

Despite the onset of the digital age and cloud storage information «traditional» optical media, hard drives and other memory elements will not soon be consigned to history. At least in large corporations and government agencies. And more recently, experts part of the «Rostec» holding «It» has developed a multilayer 3D optical storage media, created using materials of vegetable origin. As the creators say their invention in the future can replace the BluRay disks.

New multi-layered 3D optical storage media include a number of photosensitive layers, where there is a record of information. In addition, on the surface of the disk is the number of polymer layers serving to distribute the light of the reading laser. The total number of layers ranges from 40 to 60 depending on the amount of information. According to the engineers «Roselektronika»

«For the formation of functional layers used photosensitive substances of class hromonov is of particular phenolic compounds produced in plants. Developed media are superior to the existing DVD and BluRay in terms of storage, the efficiency of the method and speed of reading».

Based on the work disks have a special recording technology, developed by specialists of "Tekhnomash": recording is performed due to the properties of hromonov to change their properties under the influence of the laser wave. The optical disk may contain a much larger number of recording layers than discs of any existing formats. The optical disc can record information up to 1 terabyte, and a read speed of up to 12 gigabits per second.
